- SMU looked clearly better than Florida State for much of the game but nearly gave it away through mistakes.
- Jennings made throws under pressure. Pittman and the pass rush were positives.
- Fumbles, penalties, red-zone failures, interceptions, punt handling and run defense kept Florida State involved. Third-down stops did not always end drives because Florida State converted on fourth down.

- Louisville’s playcalling against Ole Miss was excellent throughout the game.
- A bad punt snap was costly, and the defense struggled to contain Ole Miss’ explosive plays.
