Landon Dickerson Placed on IR: A Crushing Blow for the Eagles’ Offensive Line

The Philadelphia Eagles are placing three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve, according to Jeff McLane. Dickerson will miss at least the next four games.

This is a really, really big deal for the Eagles.

We have seen what happens when injuries begin breaking down Philadelphia’s offensive line. The Eagles have struggled when that unit has not been healthy or playing at its normal level. Their offense depends heavily on controlling the line of scrimmage, protecting Jalen Hurts and creating room for the running game.

Philadelphia already had to fight just to get by Washington in Week 1. Now the Eagles are losing one of the most important players on their offense for at least four games.

There has been plenty of negativity surrounding the Cowboys after their rough opening matchup. That reaction may be getting ahead of itself considering the expectations placed on Dallas entering the season. At the same time, Philadelphia is now dealing with an injury that could have a much larger effect than people realize.

Losing Dickerson is not a minor offensive-line shuffle. It could affect the Eagles’ pass protection, running game and ability to control games up front. Philadelphia may still have enough talent to survive the injury, but this is a crushing blow that needs to be considered when evaluating the Eagles over the next several weeks.

The biggest things to watch will be how Philadelphia replaces Dickerson, whether the offensive line allows more pressure and whether the betting market properly accounts for the loss.
