Jaguars vs. Ravens Betting Preview: Why I Like Baltimore +8.5

Game date: November 5, 2026 · 8:15 p.m. EST

Jaguars–Ravens betting preview

I’m going with Baltimore plus 8.5 against Jacksonville. The Jaguars have plenty of numbers on their side, and Baltimore has real problems. I still don’t trust Jacksonville enough to lay more than a touchdown on the road Thursday night.

This is a pick against the spread, not a prediction that Baltimore wins outright. The Ravens can lose by eight and still cover +8.5. That distinction matters with their quarterback situation.

Jacksonville enters 5–2 and Baltimore 4–4. Kickoff is Thursday, November 5, at 8:15 p.m. EST at M&T Bank Stadium. The DraftKings market distributed by ESPN at 2:58 p.m. EST on November 2 listed Baltimore +8.5 at -115 and a total of 43.5. Those are dated prices, not a promise of what will be available later. My recorded selection is Ravens +8.5; I’m not making a total pick here. [1]

Jacksonville deserves credit

The Jaguars average 28.0 points and allow 15.9 through seven games. They convert 48.24% of third downs, compared with Baltimore’s 39.18%. On the ground, Jacksonville allows only 77.4 yards per game and 3.4 per carry. Those are substantial reasons to respect the favorite. [2–3]

Jacksonville’s latest performance was emphatic: a 42–7 win over Indianapolis. Trevor Lawrence completed 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Bhayshul Tuten ran for 104 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, adding two catches for 55 yards and another score. [4]

My hesitation is how much weight to put on that result. Before Indianapolis, Jacksonville beat Philadelphia 19–17 and lost 34–31 to Houston. That is a three-game sequence of a narrow win, a loss and a blowout, rather than a steady run of dominant performances. [2]

I’m not dismissing the win over Indianapolis. I’m questioning whether it makes Jacksonville trustworthy at this particular spread. The season numbers say the Jaguars are good. They do not guarantee a nine-point road victory.

What Baltimore needs to do

The Ravens’ recent results are the clearest argument against my pick. They lost 13–10 at Cleveland, 35–13 to Cincinnati and 36–10 at Buffalo. That is 11.0 points scored and 28.0 allowed per game across three losses. It is a small descriptive sample, not an against-the-spread trend. [3]

Baltimore needs enough quarterback competence to avoid letting Jacksonville sell out against the run. Derrick Henry produced 53 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries against Buffalo. The Ravens average 133.5 rushing yards and 4.6 per attempt for the season, but maintaining rushing volume gets much harder if they fall behind early. [3,5]

The defensive route is to keep Jacksonville working for its points. Baltimore allows 3.8 yards per rush, a useful piece of context for a game in which the Ravens need stops and manageable field position. That does not erase the 25.4 points per game they have conceded. [3]

The biggest risk is at quarterback

Clifton Brown’s November 1 report for the Ravens confirms Lamar Jackson needs thumb surgery and is headed to injured reserve. Tyler Huntley left the Buffalo game with a toe injury, and Joe Fagnano also took hits. That report did not establish a healthy Thursday starter. [6]

This is not a normal Baltimore offense with Jackson available. Season averages include different personnel and cannot simply be carried over to Thursday. A short week leaves less time to prepare around those absences.

Jacksonville’s strong run defense makes the problem worse: if Baltimore cannot threaten through the air, Henry may face difficult situations without enough sustained drives. That is the most plausible way the Jaguars turn this into the comfortable win the spread demands.

The pick

I’m still taking Ravens +8.5 because Jacksonville’s inconsistency leaves room for a closer game than that number suggests. But the case depends on Baltimore getting functional quarterback play, keeping its running game involved and defending better than its recent scores indicate.

The injury report and any change from +8.5 matter before kickoff. This is a price-specific opinion with a clear downside, not a claim that the Ravens have solved their problems.
