Craziest Stat From Steelers vs Saints Game
The Saints’ running game was putrid against Pittsburgh, and one Aaron Rodgers stat shows just how bad it got.
During the Steelers’ 16-10 win in Paris, Ari Meirov pointed out that 42-year-old Rodgers had more rushing yards than any individual Saints player. Rodgers had eight. Tyler Shough had seven, Kendre Miller had six and Alvin Kamara had five.
That comparison was accurate before Pittsburgh’s final kneel-downs. If you checked the final box score and saw a different number for Rodgers, here is why.
Why Rodgers’ rushing total changed
ESPN records two one-yard kneels, at 1:01 and 0:34. Those plays reduced Rodgers’ rushing total from eight yards to six.
The official Saints box score lists Rodgers with three carries for six yards. He finished behind Shough, tied with Miller and ahead of Kamara. The tweet captured the comparison before those final two plays, rather than the final rushing order.
| Player | Before kneels | Final |
|---|---|---|
| Aaron Rodgers (Steelers) | 8 | 6 |
| Tyler Shough (Saints) | 7 | 7 |
| Kendre Miller (Saints) | 6 | 6 |
| Alvin Kamara (Saints) | 5 | 5 |
The Saints’ run game was putrid
New Orleans finished with 18 rushing yards on 17 carries, just 1.1 yards per attempt. Shough led the team with seven yards on three carries. Miller managed six yards on eight attempts, while Kamara had five on six. Source: final official box score.
Miller and Kamara combined for 11 yards on 14 carries. That works out to less than a yard per attempt: 0.8 when rounded.
Rodgers’ one eight-yard run gained more than either Saints running back managed all game. Even after losing two yards while running out the clock, he still matched Miller and finished ahead of Kamara.
That is an embarrassing afternoon on the ground for New Orleans. The kneel-downs changed Rodgers’ number. They did nothing to make the Saints’ rushing performance look better.
